Networking Mothers Ireland™ is an initiative that was setup in Galway in 2005, to support mothers through the transition to motherhood.
While earning a Masters in the Transition into Motherhood, Maria Flannery O’Boyle, a Public Health Nurse, identified that the majority of women had a negative transition, and 50% had a low network of support. She then piloted an initiative and developed an evidence based model of support based on ten principles to nurture mothers through the transition. The key to this model is that mums develop good quality informal supports in their community, which is delivered in a safe environment by a trained health care professional. The research shows that Networking Mothers™ provides information and emotional support, and above all increases a mum's network of support to enjoy motherhood.
We are currently based in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, but soon plan to go nationwide.
